As Operation Roaring Lion continues and security tensions escalate, one organization is already shifting into high gear to make sure Israel’s most vulnerable do not go hungry. ILTV’s Mayan Hoffman has more.
As Israel confronts the challenges of Operation Roaring Lion, Leket Israel, the National Food Bank, has moved into full emergency mode. The organization is expanding its relief efforts nationwide, working to ensure that food continues to reach those who need it most, even as security conditions complicate daily life.
In the coming days, Leket will distribute thousands of hot meals to Holocaust survivors living in housing complexes across the country. Around 1,700 nutritious meals are expected to be delivered each day, part of a broader purchase of approximately 12,000 meals designed to guarantee a steady and reliable supply during this period of uncertainty.
At the same time, the organization is rolling out digital food vouchers to hundreds of families through its nonprofit partner agencies with plans to expand that program in the days ahead. The goal is to provide immediate, dignified assistance that families can access safely and independently.
Despite restrictions and ongoing security concerns, Leket continues to rescue surplus agricultural produce and prepared food from packing houses and other sources across Israel. The food is transported to the organization’s logistics center and then distributed to partner agencies operating under Home Front Command guidelines.
This shift is not new territory for Leket. Throughout the last two and a half years of war, the organization has rescued and redistributed surplus food on a large scale. During emergencies, demand rises sharply. Even under fire, Leket says it is committed to maintaining continuity, protecting its staff and volunteers, and expanding its response so that Israel’s most vulnerable populations are not left behind in a time of crisis.
