Food rescue in the land of Israel
Lillian, Holocaust survivor and Leket recipient
Lillian is one of 470,000 Israelis fed every week with food rescued from the fields of Israel. You can put food on her table this week.

leket · Hebrew for “the gleanings”
Why we are called Leket
“When you reap the harvest of your land you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest… you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger.” Leviticus 19:9–10
Three thousand years ago, God commanded the farmers of Israel to leave part of every harvest in the field, so the poor could come and gather it. The Hebrew word for what they gathered is leket.
Today, in those same fields, the command is alive again. Volunteers walk the rows after harvest and gather what would have been left behind. Refrigerated trucks collect cooked meals that kitchens cannot serve. Food that was headed for waste lands on the tables of hungry families instead.
This is not a charity that buys groceries. It is the oldest welfare law in the world, and it now runs nationwide.
The one becomes the many

How it works
Step one
Volunteers glean surplus produce straight from the fields. Kitchens set aside fresh cooked meals that would otherwise be thrown away.
Step two
Sixty-three refrigerated trucks carry the rescued food to 346 local charities serving every corner of Israel.
Step three
The food reaches Holocaust survivors, single mothers, and the elderly the same week it was rescued.
Here is why a dollar goes so far: the food is rescued, not purchased. Growing it already happened. Cooking it already happened. Your gift pays only to gather it and deliver it.
$10 = 18 hot meals

Or give monthly. $18 a month sends 32 rescued meals, month after month. In Hebrew, eighteen is chai, which means life.
